On December 23, 2020, the state of Colorado submitted a request for a Presidential Disaster Declaration for a major disaster or emergency related to Colorado wildfires in Grand, Boulder and Larimer counties.
Under the provisions of Section 401 of the Robert T. Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance Act, 42 U.S.C. §§ 5121-5207 (Stafford Act), and implemented by 44 CFR § 206.36, I respectfully request that you declare a Major Disaster for the State of Colorado as a result of the extensive damage from the multiple fires which occurred over the summer and fall of 2020, specifically the Cameron Peak Fire (Larimer County), East Troublesome Fire (Grand County), and Calwood Fire (Boulder County). I am requesting both Individual and Public Assistance for Boulder, Grand, and Larimer counties.
As a result of the complexity of monitoring and collecting information on multiple fires across several jurisdictions, particularly within a COVID-19 environment, I requested and was granted a time extension in which to submit a major disaster declaration request (see Enclosure C). The deadline was ultimately extended to December 23, 2020. (Please note that the letter is dated December 21, 2020, however, it was actually submitted on the 23rd.)
