January 2025 Warming Center and Shelter Map provided by Colorado DHSEM and State EOC. Many of the shelters below do not open until Saturday, January 18, 2025. The map linked shares the location of the locations shared below. Shelters are opened and managed by local agencies at the city or county level.  The list below is information reported to the State EOC.  There may be locations that have not been shared, but are open.  Emergency managers or local officials should post the status of all warming centers and shelters in WebEOC and can email micki.trost@state.co.us.  Location information is also pulled from social media posts. Social media posts will be amplified and re-shared with the hashtag #COShelter. A warming center and shelter location Google document with the information below is also available.

Adams County

  • The MAC, 3295 W. 72nd Ave., Westminster, CO | Open from noon Saturday, Jan. 18, to noon Tuesday, Jan. 21., Hours: 24/7, Maximum capacity is 65, Call 303-426-4310 to determine capacity, Pets allowed
  • Margaret Carpenter Recreation Center, 11151 Colorado Blvd., Thornton, CO | Will be open overnight and daytime for individuals needing to get warm. Will not have dormitories or cots. The recreation center will be open for regular business during daily operational hours, but people can come in to get warm. No pets allowed, Overnight hours:
    • Saturday, Jan. 18 |5:45 p.m.-7:45 a.m.
    • Sunday, Jan. 19 | 5:45 p.m.- 4:45 a.m.
    • Monday, Jan. 20 | 8:45 p.m.- 4:45 a.m.

  • Eagle Pointe Recreation Center, 6060 Parkway Dr., Commerce City, CO | Open from 6 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, to mid-morning Tuesday, Jan. 21., Hours: 24/7. People can drop in throughout the day in the designated community rooms. After 10 p.m., people can’t leave the premises and reenter.   • Cold Weather Family Shelter |2178 Victor St, Aurora, CO | Phone is 303-341-9160, The Cold Weather Family Shelter is a supportive center dedicated solely to families. Come in for a warm meal, a hot shower, and some shelter from the elements. Text WARMUP to 313131 to receive real-time updates about emergency shelter, cold-weather activation, events, support, and more provided by Colfax Community Network, Family Preservation Center, and Comitis Crisis Center programs of Mile High Behavioral Healthcare
  • Warming Center at Aurora Day Resource Center | at 3387 E. 19th Place is open to adults aged 18 and older. While this is an adult service center, no one will be turned away. Staff can provide referrals to family-designated shelters. Overnight cold weather sheltering begins at 5 p.m., with no cutoff time for arrival. To stay informed about cold weather activations, text “Advance” to 38276. For more information, call 303-343-7808.
  • Day Warming Center at Comitis Crisis Center |2178 Victor St., Aurora, CO, open to families on a first-come, first-serve basis. No families will be turned away during cold weather activations. To receive updates, text “Warmup” to 313131. For more information, call 303-341-9160. 
  • Rocky Mountain VA Medical Center | 1700 N Wheeling St, Aurora, CO in Building A, Space is extremely limited. Doors will open at 6 p.m. on Friday, January 17. The shelter will close promptly at noon on Tuesday, January 21. To use the shelter, Veterans should enter the Colfax or South Entrance at RMR after 6 p.m. on Friday and speak with a VA employee posted at one of the entrances. No animals are allowed. All persons and property will be checked for weapons or contraband.

Denver has numerous facilities open as daytime warming centers and as emergency cold weather shelters. Visit the Denver website for specific addresses of recreation centers and libraries that are shelters. 

  • St. Charles Recreation Center| 3777 Lafayette St., Denver, CO, open from 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 17, and will provide 24/7 shelter until Tuesday, Jan. 21 at 11 a.m. Shelter is open opens at 8 p.m. and closes at 8 a.m. each night. 
  • Shelter for individual men at Denver Rescue Mission | Lawrence Street Community Center, 2222 Lawrence St., Denver, CO.
  • Shelter for individual women open at Samaritan House |2301 Lawrence St., Denver, CO
  • Shelter for youth ages 12 - 24 at Urban Peak, 1630 S. Acoma St., Denver, CO
  • Families in need of shelter should call the Connection Center at 303-295-3366.
  • HOST is activating a 24/7 cold weather shelter from 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 30 through 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21 at the following locations:
    •  Stone Creek Shelter (former Best Western hotel) |4595 Quebec St., Denver
    • Aspen Shelter (former DoubleTree hotel) |4040 Quebec St., Denver

  • The Springs Rescue Mission and The Sanctuary Church serve as the region’s two main warming shelters. These locations also offer meals and other resources for those experiencing homelessness. If you see an unhoused person who may need support, please refer them to the Springs Rescue Mission or The Sanctuary Church. Call 719-401-3111 for people who need transportation to warming shelters. Call 911 if you see any resident experiencing what you think is an emergency medical situation. Call 911 if you see smoke or signs of a fire.

  • Lakewood Daytime Warming Center at Lakewood's Navigation Center| 8000 W. Colfax Ave., Lakewood, CO, open 24/7 from 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 17 through 7 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21 to provide resources and a safe, warm space for those in need during the cold temperatures. 
  • Daytime Warming Centers at Jefferson County Public Libraries| Many library branches across Jefferson County act as daytime warming centers, providing a safe and warm space for individuals during extreme weather. Hours are 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. All locations are closed on Monday, Jan 20th for MLK. Wheat Ridge library is closed on Fridays and the Conifer location is closed until Wednesday, Jan. 22nd at 9 a.m.
